Antitrust officials from the US Department of Justice will ask a judge to force Google to sell its Chrome browser, according to a report from Bloomberg. The Justice Department could also ask the judge to impose some measures regarding artificial intelligence and Google's Android operating system. Judge Amit Mehta could also be asked to impose data licensing requirements on Google. If the report turns out to be true and the judge accepts these claims, it could mark the first action of its kind against a major tech company.
The judge had ruled in August that Google had violated antitrust law by maintaining a monopoly in search and advertising activities. “After carefully considering and weighing the witness statements and evidence, the court reaches the following conclusion: Google is a monopolist and has acted as such to maintain its monopoly,” the ruling said in August.
