Emma Raducanu tests positive for COVID-19, outdoor exhibition event in Abu Dhabi

Raducanu, who became the first qualifier to win a major when she triumphed at Flushing Meadows in September, would face Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic on December 16-18.

“I was really looking forward to playing for the fans here in Abu Dhabi, but unfortunately, having tested positive for COVID-19, I have to postpone it until the next opportunity,” said Raducanu.

“I’m isolating according to the rules and hopefully I can go back soon.”

Organizers said they are looking at “alternative top female competitors” to replace Raducanu at the event.

World number six men Rafa Nadal and last year’s US Open winner Dominic Thiem are returning from their injury layoff in Abu Dhabi.

Briton Andy Murray, Russian Andrey Rublev, Norwegian Casper Ruud and Canadian Denis Shapovalov will also participate in the event ahead of the 2022 competitive season in Australia.
