But after receiving critical acclaim from around the world for her performance, Tan was criticized the next day from her doubles partner, Tamara Korpatsch, for dropping out in their opening match.
“Unfortunately, my doubles partner H. Tan stopped playing our doubles today,” Korpatsch wrote on Instagram on Wednesday after Tan withdrew, reportedly citing fatigue.
“She just texted me this morning. Let me wait here [until] one hour before the start of the game. I am very sad, disappointed and also very angry that I cannot play my first double Grand Slam.”
In her post, Korpatsch said the situation was not “fair” for her, before adding: “If you’re broke after 3 hours [three-hour] match the day before, you can’t play professionally. That’s my opinion.”
But now it seems that calm has been restored between the duo.
Korpatsch wrote on Instagram on Thursday: “Me and Harmony talked and sorted out all the misunderstandings. She has now made it clear to me about her injury and we have already apologized to each other.”
She added that she would delete her previous post and asked fans not to send “insults” to the player.
