Jeet Ki Zidd
Cast: Amit Sadh, Amrita Puri, Sushant Singh, Aly Goni
Director: Vishal Mangalorkar
There is honestly nothing in this world that a person cannot do, if they put their heart and soul into it. In our life we have seen many extraordinary people, but some take the term to another level. The same is true of the Special Forces hero, Major Deependra Singh Senger, who was told he would never walk again after being shot in September 1999. With his sheer willpower, determination and unconditional love of partner, Senger rewrote his destiny.
Major Senger’s story is unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Nor is it limited to his journey of recovery. Through the ZEE5 web series Jeet Ki Zidd we see many different parts of his life. From the traumatic event that led him to enlist in the military to the various missions he led throughout his career. This is done in a non-linear fashion, with several timelines intersecting at what seems appropriate moments.
While this is a great way to tell a true story and maintain the suspense, there’s something that scares the way it’s performed in the show.
Major Senger’s missions are terrifying to a normal audience. So when we’re in the scene, we want to stay in the scene. The adrenaline is what connects us to the character. But instead of staying on a great moment and going two seconds early in another series, you lose your audience.
In many scenes there seem to be jump cuts. This may have been intended to increase the tension of a scene, but it does the opposite. The show feels impatient, which comes across to the viewer. It almost feels like strict airtime shows that cut their scenes short for television.

It feels like certain actors carry the whole scene and everyone else doesn’t give their best. This may also be because the dialogues are disappointing. When our protagonist is in a dangerous situation while fighting terrorists, or is in great pain because of his injury, or is trying to improve his heart and soul, the dialogues don’t match. In these places, the actors probably would have been more emotional with silence.
Amit Sadh does most of the heavy lifting. He could have benefited more from attention to the small details in the script and production. Sushant Singh lives up to the expectations that a viewer has of him. He has always been versatile and here too he fits like a puzzle. Amrita Puri, who plays Jaya Senger, can also convey a lot without saying much. She gives a balanced presentation.
Despite flaws, it is still a good watch. Without ruining anything, it gives you a sense of positivity. We need that, right?
