Both flights landed safely, IndiGo (representative) said
New Delhi:
An IndiGo flight Kolkata-Bengaluru reported a midair malfunction on Tuesday after one of its engines shut down. However, the flight landed safely.
The incident occurred within hours of the airline’s other plane suffering a similar malfunction.
The first engine failure incident occurred earlier in the day on the Madurai-Mumbai Indigo flight.
“Engine 2 stalled and the engine 2 oil chip detected warning came on. Engine 2 was shut down per the checklist and the aircraft landed safely,” the country’s aviation regulator, the DGCA, said in a statement.
IndiGo also released a statement citing a technical issue before landing in Mumbai.
“The pilot prioritized landing in Mumbai. The aircraft is being held in Mumbai and will be operational again after necessary maintenance. We regret the inconvenience to passengers,” IndiGo said.
Both planes ran on Pratt and Whitney engines, officials said.
