In yet another hit-and-run case in Mumbai, a young model lost her life after a water tanker ran over her in the posh Bandra area.
Shivani Singh, 25, a resident of Mumbai's Malad, was riding a motorcycle with her friend when the accident happened.
The water tanker hit them on Dr. at 8 p.m. Friday. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road in Bandra, sources said.
Shivani Singh was thrown from the motorcycle by the force of the impact, sources said. She ended up under the wheels of the heavy vehicle. Her friend survived.
The tanker was speeding before hitting them, sources said, adding that the tanker driver jumped out of the vehicle and immediately ran from the accident scene.
The young model was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The police say they are looking at camera images in the area to arrest the suspect.
In recent months, several deaths have occurred in Mumbai due to hit-and-run accidents. Some of them turned out to be high-profile cases involving relatives of political leaders or businessmen, and luxury cars such as BMW or Porsche.
