Heavy rains have caused waterlogging in several areas of Pune, paralysing normal life. Schools have been closed and residential apartments in Pune's Pimpri-Chinchwad have been flooded. Three people were electrocuted as they waded through a flooded street.
Mumbai and adjoining areas like Thane are also experiencing heavy rains. Some areas in Andheri, Sion, Chembur and Kurla and Thane's Mumbra are under water. The Andheri Subway in Mumbai has been closed due to waterlogging. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that Vihar Lake and Modak Sagar Lake, two of the seven lakes that supply water to the city, started overflowing early today. The capacity of the lakes is 2,769 crore litres and 12,892 litres.

In Pune, three teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have joined rescue operations in the Ekta Nagar, Sinhgad Road and Varje areas. In some places, water is up to waist level. The Baba Bhide Bridge over the Mutha River is now submerged after the water level rose following the downpour.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has assessed the situation and asked the district administration to remain alert. Pune Collector Suhas Diwase has ordered closure of all tourist spots in the district for 48 hours. He has also said that traffic on bridges that are at risk of submergence will be prohibited. The district administration has also asked residents to stay indoors and go out only when necessary.
Khadakwasla Dam has reached its full capacity due to heavy rains. A warning has been issued to residents living along the banks of Mutha River.
In Deccan Gymkhana area, three people were electrocuted early this morning while trying to rescue a handcart from a flooded street. Abhishek Ghanekar, Akash Mane and Shiva Parihar were street food vendors and were using the handcart as their stall.
