Bhopal:
At least eight members of a family were killed on Tuesday and six others were injured in a traffic accident in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh.
The incident took place in the Nohata Police Station Area around 10:15 am when the driver of a vehicle with 15 passengers had control over the Sunar River Bridge near Simri Dorp and fell on a dry river bed.
According to police officers, the residents of the vehicle were residents of the Jabalpur district.
Among the dead were five sisters from the same family, along with a niece and a grandson.
Investigation officer Arvind Singh said Ians that six occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, while two children, eight and ten years old, collapsed with their injuries in the Damoh District Hospital.
The remaining injured passengers were treated in Damoh before they were transported to Jabalpur Medical College via a specially ranked green course to quickly guarantee medical care.
“Post-mortem exams of the bodies were carried out in the Jabera hospital and bodies have been transferred to the police,” said the civil servant.
Authorities reported that the victims came home after a visit to a local “vaidya” for herbal medicine to treat certain ailments.
However, police sources suggest that they may also have visited a site that focuses on a local deity, as a result of which questions are asked about the reason for the family to travel together in such large numbers. This accident was part of a series of road tragedies, because three separate accidents took place on Monday in Madhya Pradesh and a total of ten lives claimed.
On Monday, six members of a family died on the spot and three others were injured in the Jabalpur-Roaden Road.
They came after participating in a marriage. Civil servants continue their research into the circumstances around the Damoh incident.
