CEO of Air Asia during a management meeting.
AirAsia Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes used networking platform LinkedIn to appreciate his company’s work culture, which allows him to get a massage and attend a management meeting together. He also shared a photo of himself sitting shirtless in a conference room, attending a meeting while getting a massage. However, his post has drawn criticism from many people on the internet who said it seemed “inappropriate”.
In the caption he wrote: “It was a stressful week and Veranita Yosephine suggested a massage. I love the culture of Indonesia and AirAsia so I can get a massage and have a management meeting.”
“We are making great progress and I have now completed the Capital A structure. Exciting days ahead. Proud of what we have built and never lost sight of the finish line,” he added.
Since the post was shared on the platform, it has amassed 576 likes and several comments.
“An adult man, who is the CEO of a publicly traded company, holds a management meeting while taking off his shirt while getting a massage. Remove ‘who is the CEO of a publicly traded company’ and it is still inappropriate.” said one user.
A second person added: “Work at AirAsia, where meetings are as dirty as our passenger experience. You’ve managed to capture everything from inappropriate entitlement to exemplary C Suite tone deafness in one image. Bravo!”
“I’m assuming this meeting took place long after the workday was over and most of the office was empty (except for a few C-levels), but at least put on a shirt for the photo,” said another person .
“I hope not, but I think someone hacked their LI and wrote this,” one user commented.
“Yeah, maybe this isn’t the best way to show off work culture? Don’t think you’re giving the intended impression you were hoping for,” said another user.
A sixth person said: “Tony, when you said Air Asia had an open culture, I didn’t expect it to be THIS open…”
A few users also praised the CEO for “impressive work.”
“I love this boss!!” one person said.
“My favorite post on LinkedIn. Looking forward to posting more of your daily office life,” added a LinkedIn user.
