Guwahati:
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned today – two years after ethnic violence broke out in the state – to suppress the dissidence in the state of BJP against his leadership, because his government is confronted with the possibility of a congress without trust and floor test. The main minister gave the governor his resignation tonight.
Although the BJP has the figures, despite the withdrawal of the support by the National Party of Conrad Sangma, there was a possibility that the MLAs looking for a change in leadership would have ignored a party wip in the case of a floor test.
To avert that possibility, the main minister resigned after he had handed over the central leadership.
Mr. Singh went to Delhi this morning, where he met party chef JP Nadda and her main strategist, Union Minister Amit Shah.
With reference to the ethnic violence that broke out in May 2023, a round 12 MLAs have strongly insisted on a change in leadership, and there are about six werksitters, according to festive sources. The sources also added that the speaker and the chief minister had “differences”.
Some rebels have even met Amit Shah with their demands.
With the threat of the congress of a motion without trust in the meeting that starts tomorrow, sources said there was a possibility that they would have skipped a floor test.
Sources also said that, given his series of successes in the elections of Maharashtra, Haryana and Delhi, the BJP did not want a crisis that could overshadow the positive political story.
The screaming against Biren Singh grew after a person from the Kuki community went to the Supreme Court and claimed that the Chief Minister had set up the violence in the state. His complaint was based on leaked audio tires that supposedly from the Chief Minister.
Non-profit private forensic laboratory Truth Labs has confirmed that 93 percent of the audio tires corresponded to Mr. Singh's voice.
The Supreme Court has sought a report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory about the leaked audio tires.
