New Delhi:
A Chinese national, presumably member of an organized worldwide theftyndicate in the flight, has been arrested for alleged debit and credit cards of fellow passengers during a flight from Hong Kong to New Delhi, the police said on Saturday.
The accused, the 30-year-old Benlai Pan, was arrested on 14 May on arrival at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) after complaints from several passengers on board Air India Flight AI-315, they said in an official statement.
Pan traveled with three other Chinese nationals-the 51-year-old Meng Guangyang, the 42-year-old Chang Mang, the 45-year-old and Liu Jie-Die were all held and interrogated, said civil servants.
According to the authorities, it is probably that the group operates together as part of an international theft of the flight.
“The Air India security team warned the IGI Airport Police about suspicious activities in which four Chinese nationals were involved during the flight. One of the passengers, Pabhat Verma, who was at 12 ° C, reported that a credit card was missing in his bag,” said extra police officer in an official statement.
“Verma also pointed to suspicious behavior by a passenger who was at 14C, who received a ticket for Seat 23C,” said the statement.
The missing credit card was later found from under chair 14C, where Pan was found, she said.
Another passenger, Prashi, reported that her mother's bank card was also missing. A third passenger, Nafeez Fatima, gave a video with the pan that reportedly opened upstairs and continued during the flight through cabin baggage, the officer said.
During the interrogation, PAN known that they booked long-distance supporters in the long distance to focus on sleeping passengers and gain access to a luggage of untrued cabin. The group spread over the cabin to prevent suspicion and stolen cards thrown away after an attempt to use them, she added.
A case is registered under relevant parts of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the police station of the IGI Airport, the police said.
Mobile phones, portfolios and other assets of the suspects have been seized for forensic examination. International coordination is underway to investigate their possible involvement in comparable incidents worldwide, they said further.
While Benlai Pan has been arrested, the roles of his three employees are examined. Immigration authorities throughout the country have been warned and the contact was founded with embassies and global law enforcement agencies, the police added.
