SEBI Director Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch have criticised Hindenburg Research
New Delhi:
SEBI Director Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch have alleged that US short seller Hindenburg Research attempted to character assassinate the SEBI Chairman instead of responding to the showcause notice about the violation of rules in India.
“The investment in the fund referred to in the Hindenburg Report was made in 2015, when both were still ordinary citizens living in Singapore and almost two years before Madhabi joined SEBI, even as a full-time member,” the Buchs said in a statement today.
“The decision to invest in this fund was taken because its Chief Investment Officer, Anil Ahuja, is a childhood friend of Dhaval, both from school and IIT Delhi. A former employee of Citibank, JP Morgan and 3i Group plc, he has decades of experience as an investor,” the researchers said.
“As Anil Ahuja confirmed, the fund has at no point invested in bonds, shares or derivatives of any Adani group company…,” the couple said.
SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch release a statement in the context of the allegations leveled against them by Hindenburg on August 10, 2024.

“Hindenburg has been issued a show cause notice for various violations in India. It is unfortunate that instead of responding to the show cause notice, they have chosen to attack the credibility of SEBI and try to accuse the SEBI Chairman of character assassination,” they said.
