India's tempo spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is excluded from the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy because of a lower back injury, the BCCI said Tuesday, allowing all the speculation about his participation in the Premier Tournament. The senior selection committee for men's team has mentioned Harshit Rana as a replacement for Bumrah for the Mega event from 19 February in Pakistan. India will open their campaign against Bangladesh in Dubai on 20 February.
The selectors have also included Varun Chakaravarthy in the team, the mysterious spinner who replaces Battery Yashasvi Jaiswal, mentioned in the provisional team.
India will play all their matches of the tournament in Dubai under a hybrid model agreement.
Bumrah, who already undergone a lower back operation in 2022, suffered another stress -related injury while bowling in the last test against Australia in Sydney, where he withdrew after sending 10 overs in the first innings.
“Bumrah was asked to release five weeks, after which his rehabilitation took place at NCA under strength and conditioning trainer Rajnikanth and Physio Thulasi.
“The report of NCA Head Nitin Patel clearly states that although he had completed his rehabilitation and scan reports, it could not be in order, it could not be concluded that he would be fit by the time the tournament begins. That is why the selectors did .
“Nitin left the ball in the court of Ajit (Chief Selector Agarkar) and therefore no one would like to put their neck out and run the risk of placing an unsuitable player in a team. If the medical team is not completely green light, how can it The Kan Selection Committee takes that risk, “said the civil servant.
During a meeting between the chairman of the Selector Agarkar, head coach Gautam Gambhir and Captain Rohit Sharma in Ahmedabad, it was considered whether they would take an unsuitable Bumrah to the Champions trophy or go for the inexperienced Rana.
“The bet is too high and it would have been a full shame if Bumrah had been demolished in a match. The NCA led by Nitin Patel once burned their hands in 2022 when they pushed Bumrah for the bilateral series against Australia before the T20 World Cup And he was demolished to be out for a year.
“That was the Chetan Sharma committee and so Agarkar did not want to take a chance.” It is, however, that the main bone of the fight was that Bumrah should not start bowling the full tilt and those who know that things said it is very difficult to become a match-fit in such a short time.
Instead, he can come back for Mumbai -Indians in the IPL and then lead India in England, because Rohit Sharma is probably not chosen for tests.
However, the selection committee chose a fifth spinner in the team in Varun Chakravarthy, which was also added for the English series. This time, autumnman was the young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who would not find a place in the playing XI with Rohit and Shubman Gill who opened the innings.
Jaiswal is one of the non-drinking reserves together with Shivam Dube (Like-For-Like for Hardik Pandya) and Mohammed Siraj (Like-For-Like for Mohammed Shami).
Chakravarthy, who has been very successful in T20is, made his ODI debut in Cuttack based on his T20 form and the KKR -Bowler is a personal favorite of head coach Gambhir.
Two choices in these Champions Trophy Squad are based on the recommendations of Gambhir – Rana and Chakravarthy – which both happen to be part of IPL -side Kolkata Knight Riders.
