Speaking of the incident against CNN, he described how he felt a slimy texture on his face when he saw himself turning around and saw dark blue and white colors approaching before he was pulled under water. At that moment he believed that he could not do anything and feared that he would die, without knowing what had happened.
“I thought it had already eaten me and had swallowed me,” he said. However, he soon felt that his life pulls him up again, and within a few seconds he popped up and started to understand the situation.
Simancas remembered that when he popped up and started to float, he was worried that something could happen to his father, that they would not reach the coast on time, or that he could develop hypothermia. Both the father and the son, however, succeeded in going to the coast safely after the incident.
When asked if they are kayaking again, both father and son responded without hesitation: “Of course.”
