The CJI has issued a stern warning to the lawyer
New Delhi:
“Yeh kya market hai jo aap phone pe baat kar rahe hai?” noted Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Monday, taking strong exception to a lawyer who was talking on a mobile phone in his courtroom.
The CJI, who was sitting on the bench along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, ordered the court staff to seize the lawyer’s mobile phone.
“Yeh kya market hai jo aap phone pe baat kar rahe hai? Inka mobile le lo“(Is this a market where you are talking on the phone. Seize his mobile phone),” Justice Chandrachud said.
The lawyer was in the courtroom on the phone, prompting the CJI to stop the proceedings and address him directly.
The CJI sternly warned the lawyer and said, “Be careful in future. Judges see everything. We may look at the papers but we have eyes everywhere.”
