On Tuesday, the Kerala High Court actor Dulquer Salmaan instructed to approach the assessment authority under the Customs Act, 1962, to ask the provisional release of his Land Rover defender.
The vehicle was confiscated by customs officers as part of 'Operation Numkhor'.
The court dedicated the customs department to make a decision within one week after receiving the Dulquer's application for Dulquer's release.
The luxury SUV was taken into custody after a raid on the Dulquer Residence, carried out under Operation Numkhor – a performance aimed at persons suspected of tax evasion and the illegal import of vehicles from Bhutan using forged registrations.
“It is appropriate for the applicant to approach the assessment body, the additional supervisory director, Kochi, Kochi. In such circumstances it is ordered that as the submitter submits an application on the basis of Article 110a, which is taken into consideration by the competent authority and suitable orders is passed on by the interim -by -the's application.
The court added: “It is further clarified that, by section 110a, a provisional release is a right of the petitioner under normal circumstances. In the event that his application is rejected, the same can only be done through a talk with regard to the documents produced and the increased claims.”
What happened to Dulquer Salmaan's car?
Customs officials recently performed raids at various locations in Kerala, including the houses of actors Dulquer Salmaan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. During the operation, the authorities seized more than 35 luxury vehicles that were probably imported from Bhutan via fraudulent channels.
Among the seized vehicles, the Land Rover defender of Salmaan from 2004 was.
On 25 September Salmaan submitted a representation to the customs authority, which provided all the necessary documents to support his case. His request for the release of the vehicle, however, was rejected, so that he approaches the Supreme Court for exemption.
In the meantime, Dulquer is preparing for his upcoming Tamil -Telugu bilingual film 'Kaantha'. A teaser for the project, aimed at the tense relationship between a father and son, was unveiled about the 42nd anniversary of the actor.
