The constant bombardment of military strikes is causing significant destruction across Ukraine, as seen on new Maxar Technologies satellite images.
Volnovacha: In southeastern Ukraine, about 55 kilometers north of Mariupol, much of the small town of Volnovakha lies in ruins – destroyed by military attacks. Where there once stood some buildings, only scorched structures remain.
On Wednesday, Russian state media interviewed Russian-backed separatists from the Donbas region in the city, who claimed to have taken control of the city from Ukrainian forces.
The roof of the city’s train station looks like it has been smashed in. Buildings to the northeast of it also have their roofs. The only evidence that some buildings once stood near the main square is their charred walls.
On the north side of Volnovakha, a church and an apartment complex have been destroyed. Debris is seen covering the ground around them.
At a roundabout toward the northwest side of town, nearly all of the buildings seen in the satellite image suffered significant damage.
Chernihiv: In a field about 17 kilometers northeast of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine, more than a dozen Russian self-propelled howitzers and multiple missile launch systems are on display.
In the east of Chernihiv a number of houses around a roundabout are on fire.
In another satellite image, the multi-purpose sports complex Chernihiv Stadium has sustained massive damage to the stands and a huge impact crater can be seen in the center of the pitch.
Kharkiv: In In the northeast of Ukraine, a number of houses near a large apartment complex in the center of Kharkov are on fire. Further north of the city, a snow-covered field near the airport of the Kharkiv Aircraft Manufacturing Company is littered with impact craters.
