A 47-year-old man was arrested and sent to prison on Monday, four days after he reportedly raped an eight-year-old girl during a wedding ceremony here, the police said.
The suspect has been identified as Nandkishore.
Extra superintendent of police (South) Anshika Verma said that a case was registered after the rape of a minor girl came to light on 24 April by an unknown person in a village under the limits of the Fishharatganj police station.
The police then started an investigation and arrested Nandkishore of Visharatganj attranchhedi Road on Monday, said the ASP.
The accused was produced in court, who sent him to prison.
According to Visharatganj Station House Officer Satish Kumar, the accused of the police told that the minor girl had come to her family to attend the marriage of her family member in the village on 24 April. He admitted that he lured the girl and raped her during the ceremony.
