New Delhi:
The Supreme Court of Allahabad is not a “garbage bin”, which stated the bar of the court on Friday morning, which adds a new turn to the growing controversy around Justice Yashwant Varma and the recovery of a stack not – recovered cash – reportedly RS 15 crore – from his house.
In a letter to the supreme judge and other judges of the Supreme Court of Allahabad, the group opposed the repatriation of Justice Varma, as decided by the High Department Collegium after discovery of the money. The association said it had been “surprised” by the decision of the Collegium.
“This decision of the Collegium raises a serious question – is the Supreme Court of Allahabad a garbage can? This issue becomes important when we investigate the current situation … in which the Supreme Court of Allahabad has too few judges … New judges have not appointed for many years.”
The Bar Association has also made the lack of judges in the Supreme Court of Allahabad Red and also questioned, such as Senior Delhi proponents such as Kapil Sibal and Indira Jaising, the process with which the Collegium appoints new judges.
“It is also of great importance that when raising members of the bar, the bar has never been consulted. Considering the suitability does not seem to be up to the goal. Something is missing … which has resulted in corruption and consequently the faith of Public in the judiciary is damaged.”
These points suggest a “conspiracy to divide the Allabad Supreme Court into parts”, the association claimed, which announced a general meeting on Monday to “make a suitable decision”.

The controversy around Justice Varma – who was born in Allahabad (now called Prayagraj) in 1969 and served as a judge in the Supreme Court until his Delhi in 2021 – broke after the money was found in his assigned bungalow in national capital.
The money was found by firefighters called to bring a fire during Holi, ie on March 14. The firefighters then called the police and eventually the Supreme Court was informed.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Justice Varma may be asked to resign or be removed by the parliament, on the basis of Article 124 (4) of the Constitution.
Justice Varma – whose transfer to Allahabad will only be official after the union's approval – has not yet commented on this matter and, according to his court officials, is “in leave” for the day.
