A special five-day session of Parliament begins today with a discussion on Parliament’s 75-year journey. Eight bills are listed, including a controversial bill on the appointment of a chief election commissioner. The session will shift to the new parliament building on Tuesday after a meeting in the central hall of the current building. A special session was also held when India completed fifty years of independence. A midnight session was convened on August 15, 1997.

MPs of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) protest at the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex against the arrest of party chief and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in a corruption case. “Chandrababu Naidu has been arrested illegally. His arrest is illegal. We demand his immediate release. We will raise this issue in Parliament,” TDP MP Rammohan Reddy told NDTV.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Laxmikant Vajpayee. Sudhanshu Trivedi, Radhamohan Das Agarwal and two other speakers are among the BJP leaders who will speak in Parliament during the special session starting today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak in Lok Sabha around 11.15 am.

Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc will meet at the Leader of the Opposition’s Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge office in Parliament at 10 am to discuss their strategy ahead of the special five-day session of Parliament starting at 11 am today.
“We have communicated our agenda. The opposition keeps asking what will happen tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. We have made the agenda clear from our side during the meeting with all parties. What can we do now if they continue to imagine things?”

Parliament Session LIVE: PM Modi to speak in Lok Sabha at 11.15 am
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak in Lok Sabha around 11.15 am. Both Houses meet today for a five-day special session that will begin with a discussion on the journey of 75 years of Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Speaker will also speak on the subject in their respective houses, besides other speakers. BJP’s senior leader Piyush Goyal is expected to speak about this in the Rajya Sabha.
The list of eight bills given by the government to the opposition during the all-party meeting on Sunday does not include the controversial bill for the appointment of top election officials, sources said. The meeting took place on the eve of the five-day special session of Parliament. Sources in the government said they are considering amending the bill: the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Tenure) Bill.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address mediapersons at the Parliament complex at 10.30 am ahead of the special session starting today. The proceedings in both houses will start at 11am with a discussion on the journey of 75 years of Parliament. From the Constituent Assembly until now – achievements, experiences, memories and lessons – everything will be discussed. Lok Sabha Speaker and Rajya Sabha Speaker will be the first speakers in their respective houses, followed by the government side. Prime Minister Modi will also speak on the issue in Lok Sabha.
