Amid an increase in cybercrime, the Faridabad Police Department has warned citizens to be wary of the new fake e-challan scam. According to the police. fraudsters defraud citizens “by sending links from e-challan” and by making exact copies of government websites.
The Faridabad Police Department has urged citizens not to click on any links they receive in the name of e-challan. The authorities added that with just one click on these fake links, fraudsters can hack into your bank account.
“If you receive a link for a traffic call, don’t click on those links. By clicking on these links to pay, fraudsters can hack into your bank account. The police also distinguished between the original link of the e-challan and the fake link.
“Cyber fraudsters are now victimizing people by using the growing trend of e-challan payments as a weapon,” said DCP Hemendra Kumar Meena.
DCP Meena urged citizens not to click on the links they receive via text message and said that the fraud messages are made to close with a link. “You got a challan. You can pay your fine by clicking on this link,” she said.
The authorities informed citizens about how to distinguish between the original and the fake message. The statement said an original challan message will contain “engine number, vehicle identification number (VIN) and other information about your vehicle”.
In addition, the official challan message ends with a link from the government: https://echallan.parivahan.
However, the fake messages end with a link that does not contain a .gov.in at the end. The fake e-challan message contains links such as https://echallan.parivahan.in/
The Faridabad police added that once a vehicle owner clicks on the link and enters the bank account number and card details, fraudsters first hack into the person’s phone and after some time erase the entire available balance on the account.
Police spokesman Sube Singh said: “If you have been a victim of online fraud, immediately call the National Cyber Complaint Portal number 1930 and register an online complaint at www.cybercrime.gov.in.”
He added that once the victim files a complaint, the authorities will stop the transaction of money from your account. In addition, victims can also go to the nearest cyber police station, cyber help desk or a police station.
