President Droupadi Murmu awarded the prestigious Padma Awards on Monday to 71 leading people during the ceremony of the civilian investment that was held in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan. The awards include four Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri Awards, who recognize excellent contributions on different fields.
The event marked the first phase of Padma Award presentations for the year 2025.
Renowned violinist L. Subramaniam received the Padma Vibhushan for his exceptional contribution to the art area. The deceased Osamu Suzuki, former CEO of Suzuki Motor Corporation, was posthumously honored with the Padma Vibhushan for his contributions to trade and industry. His son and current CEO Toshihiro Suzuki accepted the prize on his behalf.
In the field of art, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, actor and Andhra Pradesh legislator Nandamuri Balakrishna, actor S. Ajith Kumar, and the deceased singer Pankaj Udhas were awarded the Padma Bhushan. The price for Pankaj Udhas was received by his wife Farida Udhas. Former Indian hockey -goalkeeper Pr Srejesh was granted the Padma Bhushan for his performance in the sport.
Remarkable Padma Shri recipients were play -up singer Jasper Narula for her contribution to music and Indian cricket player Ravicandran Ashwin for Excellency in Sport.
Prominent Vedic scholar Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid was also honored with the Padma Shri. It is credited to determine the favorable timings for the dedication of RAM Lalla in the Ram Janmabhoomi tample in Ayodhya and the foundation ceremony of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor in Varanasi.
The American author and researcher Stephen Knapp, known for his writings about Vedic culture and spirituality, received the Padma Shri for his work in literature and education.
The PADMA Awards, under the highest civiliancondures of India, are presented annually to individuals for exceptional services in areas, public affairs, science and engineering, medicine, social work, literature and education.
