French judicial authorities have opened an investigation into the rape of Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi, a source close to the investigation confirmed to DailyExpertNews on Tuesday.
The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office, just outside Paris, is leading the investigation, the source said.
Spanish-born Moroccan Hakimi is a fullback for Paris Saint-Germain and plays for the Moroccan national team. He scored the penalty that took Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“The Nanterre prosecutor’s office does not want to comment on this ongoing investigation, as the information already published jeopardizes the investigations needed to find out the truth,” the prosecutor’s office told DailyExpertNews.
DailyExpertNews has contacted Hakimi and PSG for comment.
Considered one of the best defenders in the world, Hakimi joined PSG from Inter Milan in 2021. He now plays alongside superstars like Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé.
Due to his impressive performance last year at both club and international level, the 24-year-old was named the best men’s team on Monday at FIFA’s annual awards ceremony in Paris.
