India captain Rohit Sharma closed his 32 ODI century on Sunday, his first in the format since October 2023. Rohit won the milestone during the 2nd ODI against England in the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. This was Rohit's first century in every size since March last year, 338 days to be precise, while his last ODI -Ton on October 11, 2023 (487 days) came to Afghanistan on the ODI World Cup. Rohit reached triple figures in 76 balls on Sunday.
Rohit's knock comes as a huge relief for India with the Champions trophy that will start in exactly 10 days.
India openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill chased in a large total of 305 points and started the innings with a positive intention.
Rohit started to fall over the fast bowlers of the first. Later Gill also joined the party. Before the stop of the game, Rohit had scored an unbeaten 29 points, while Gill scored 17* points.
Earlier in the day the three Lions skipper Jos Buttler won the Worp and chose to hit first.
For India, Virat Kohli returns after the recovery of a painful knee and Yashasvi Jaiswal goes out. Varun Chakravarthy is also ready to make his ODI debut. On the other hand, for England, Mark Wood, Gus Atkinson and Jamie Overton return to the playing XI.
In the first innings, the side led by Jos Butler for 304 points in 49.5 overs. Knocks came from Ben Duckett and Joe Root.
Duckett hit 65 runs of 56 balls that were peppered with 10 limits. After the Wicket of Duckett, Joe Root took the responsibility of scoring the runs for his national team. Root hit 69 runs of 72 balls with the help of six four before he returned to the dressing room in the 43rd on the bowling of Jadeja.
Jadeja was the choice of the bowlers for India. The 36-year-old player broke three wickets in his spell of 10 overs, where he admitted 35 runs and transferred a girl to his spell. Three wickets came through a run-out, two of which came from the innings in the last. One Wicket was each in a bag by Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami in their respective spells.
