At least six employees are feared caught after part of a substructure tunnel collapsed in Telangana on Saturday. The construction company has sent an assessment team inside for more information, the police said. The collapse took place on a part of the tunnel behind the Srisailam -Dam when some employees had entered to repair a leak. While three of them managed to escape, at least six others are feared and a rescue mission began to bring them to safety.
The tunnel is located in Amrabad on the substructure of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) in the Nagarkurnool district.
“A part of the SLBC tunnel behind the Srisailam-Dam near Domalapenta had a collapse on Saturday. In particular, at the 14th km point, the roof of the left tunnel collapsed three meters. This happened when employees Their tasks performed at the site, “said an official statement.
The tunnel was reopened only four days ago, it added.
Minister President Revanth Reddy shocked the incident in an online post, and although he said that several people were injured in the collapse, he did not share exact figures.
“After receiving information about the collapse of the tunnel and various injuries, the Minister President immediately warned the officials. He ordered officials of the district collector, SP, fire brigade, hydra and irrigation department to reach the place immediately and to provide auxiliary measures , “he said.
Minister of irrigation n Uttam Kumar and other officials from his department left for the place of the accident in a special helicopter, the post added.
Kool Minister of the Union G Kishan Reddy also asked the reasons that led to the tunnel accident and asked officials to raise those who have been feared in safety. In an X post he said that he also asked civil servants to be treated to those who have suffered injuries.
