SEBI suspects junior officers received messages from outside
New Delhi:
Amid reports of a “toxic work culture” at Sebi, the capital markets regulator on Wednesday termed the allegations of unprofessional work culture “misplaced”.
It was further stated that HRA personnel issues are being misled by external factors.
The statement came against the backdrop of media reports that employees of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) had written a letter to the government on August 6, raising concerns over the toxic work culture.
“The allegations of unprofessional work culture in the letter dated August 6, 2024 are misplaced,” Sebi said in a statement.
The watchdog suspects that young officials have received messages from outside parties encouraging them to 'approach the media, the ministry or the board', possibly to further the outsiders' own agenda.
“Sebi fears that the junior officers have received messages from external elements outside their group, effectively inciting them to 'go to the media, go to the ministry, go to the board', perhaps to suit their own ends. In fact, the letter dated August 6, 2024, was not sent by the Sebi employee associations to the government (and a section of the media),” the statement said.
According to the supervisor, it was an anonymous email that was sent. Directors and associations have condemned this themselves and communicated this to HRD via emails.
