A fetus, nestled among an empty cigarette pack, balloons and cloth, was left near a drain in Surat in Gujarat. Carrion-eating birds hovered above. A group of children threw stones to disperse the birds and raised the alarm when they realized there was a body. The police were called in.
The fetus, that of a girl, was rushed to the civil hospital, but doctors declared it dead.
The incident was reported from Surat's Apekshanagar on January 9.
The search led police to the door of a 16-year-old girl.
“At first, her mother and the person who aborted the fetus said no. The police persisted and the 16-year-old was taken for a medical examination at the New Civil Hospital, where a doctor confirmed that she had been pregnant,” she said. deputy commissioner. of police zone 4 Vijay Singh Gurjar.
Upon investigation, the police officer said, it turned out that the girl is 16 years old and even went to school until January 3.
Upon further investigation, the girl revealed that she met a 17-year-old boy on Instagram and they became friends.
“They both came in contact with each other through Instagram. The boy lived in a rented house in Pandesara, an industrial area in Surat, and they had physical relations due to which the girl became pregnant,” the police officer said.
When the boy learned that the girl was pregnant, he fled to his home in Uttar Pradesh and then to Mumbai, police said.
“From Mumbai, the boy sent her a packet of tablets to terminate the pregnancy. She took two tablets and had a miscarriage at home. She threw away the fetus,” the police officer quoted the girl as saying.
“We have taken DNA samples from them (boy and girl) and investigation is underway,” the officer said.
The boy has been arrested and will be brought before the Juvenile Justice Board, the officer said.
