Padma Vibhushan, one of the highest civil awards in the country, is awarded for “exceptional and distinguished services”.

The distinction rewards “distinct services of high order”.
Veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, from Masoom, MR India, known as Bandit Queen, also received the Padma Bhushan.
The Indian-American engineer Vinod Dham, generally known as the 'father of the Pentium chip', and the prominent malaria researcher Chetan Chitnis were also among the winners of Padma Bhushan.

The president has also awarded 30 Padma Shri to unfortunate heroes, including the 100-year-old Libo Lobo Sardesai, who played an important role in the freedom movement of Goa.
