Karnataka Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar survived a major accident this morning after her car crashed into a tree in Belgavi district. The accident took place around 5 am on a highway near Kittur when Ms Hebbalkar's driver tried to avoid hitting a dog crossing the road.
The front of the car, a Toyota Innova HyCross, was completely damaged in the accident, images from the scene showed.
All six of the MUV's airbags deployed after the accident.
Ms Hebbalkar, the Minister for Women and Child Welfare in the Siddaramaiah-led government, was traveling with her brother, Channaraj Hattiholi, who is a member of the Karnataka Legislative Council.
She was returning after attending a Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting in Bengaluru last night.

According to available reports, Ms Hebbalkar, 49, suffered minor injuries on her face and waist, while Mr Hattiholi has a minor injury on his head. Both were taken to a hospital.
