An early draft condemning the two lawmakers for participating in an investigation by a select committee of the House of Representatives into the January 6, 2021 attack described the investigation as “a Democrat-led prosecution of ordinary citizens engaged in with nonviolent and legal political discourse”.
While editing the language, a person involved in the process said the words “nonviolent and legal” were eventually replaced with “legitimate” in several versions.
The resolution was sent to members before dawn Friday in an email containing minutes of previous committee deliberations at the winter meeting and four other resolutions voted on at the general meeting. The email arrived in members’ inboxes around 1:40 am
Two RNC members told DailyExpertNews it went straight to their spam/junk folders because it was a computer generated RNC email as opposed to an email directly from Chair Ronna McDaniel.
An original draft of the resolution was never distributed to all 168 voting members, only the final draft was emailed Friday morning.
DailyExpertNews and The Washington Post both reported on the language in early drafts of the RNC resolution on Tuesday.
In the past, the committee has printed copies of the resolutions and left them on the chairs of members when they arrive for the general meeting. This was not the case at the Salt Lake City meeting, and several members were warned about the language around January 6 by members of the press during the actual session.
Not all top Republicans were dissatisfied, however.
