Tom Brady is used to setting new records, but he didn’t want this one.
The 45-year-old became the most fired quarterback in NFL history during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 27-22 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.
Brady was fired twice at the end of the first half to initially equalize and then break the record previously held by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
In truth, it’s not surprising that Brady is the most fired quarterback in NFL history since he’s been in the league for over two decades, and it doesn’t detract from his amazing legacy in the sport.
Perhaps even more worrying for the seven-time Super Bowl champion is that the Bucs have now lost three games in a row, the first time this has happened in Brady’s storied career since 2002.
It marks another low in a difficult season for both Brady and the Buccaneers.
“I don’t think you can erase what happened in the last eight weeks,” a dejected Brady, who threw for a touchdown during the defeat, told reporters after the game.
“We have to dig deep, see what we all stand for, get to work, try to improve and give ourselves a better chance of winning.”
Despite a nightmare season since retiring in March, Brady has reaffirmed his commitment to the Bucs amid rumors a second retirement was imminent.
However, his performance on the field is not what we have come to expect from arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, but he is not helped by his team.
Between struggling connections with its assault weapons, a porous line of attack, and a faltering running game, the problems pile up for the franchise.
They had held a 10-3 lead at the end of the first half on Thursday, but the Ravens took complete control in the second.
“We just didn’t play well enough to win,” Brady added.
On the other hand, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson continued his string of solid performances, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for nearly 50 yards into the win, improving Baltimore’s record to 5-3.
