New Delhi:
A woman in Bengaluru was harassed and allegedly beaten by an Ola auto driver after she cancelled a ride she had booked through the taxi app. A video of the scuffle shared on social media shows the auto driver and the woman arguing, with him trying to snatch her phone.
In the video, an agitated taxi driver is seen aggressively arguing with the woman. When she asks why he is shouting, he replies: “Tera baap deta hain kya gas ke paise? (Does your dad pay me for gas?)”. The woman then says that she will file a complaint with the police, to which the driver replies that she can do whatever she wants. She also asks why he hit her, and the enraged driver tries to take her phone, insisting that she get into his car to go to the police station, but she refuses. The video ends with the driver finally driving away.

Why are these kinds of incidents happening in Bengaluru for the last 2 years?

The woman said that she and her friend had initially booked two cars on Ola due to peak hours and that they cancelled the car her friend had booked when the car she had booked arrived first. She was then followed by the driver of the cancelled taxi who abused them.
“Yesterday in Bangalore (Bengaluru), my friend and I booked two cars on Ola due to peak hours. I reached first, so she cancelled hers. The other driver followed us, furious. Despite explaining the situation, he started shouting and using abusive words,” she wrote on social media X, demanding immediate action.
“The driver then verbally attacked us, questioned whether the car belonged to my father and made derogatory remarks. I started recording, which enraged him even more. When I said I wanted to report him, he challenged me, showing no fear of the consequences,” she further alleged.
The woman also claimed that the driver tried to take her phone and hit her when she resisted.
“Despite this, he continued to threaten me and said he would also hit me with his slippers,” she further alleged.
Ola responded to her post by saying that the incident sounds “very alarming” and that it will be investigated.
Additional Director General of Police Traffic and Road Safety Alok Kumar also responded to her post and said, “Such behaviour is unacceptable. (A) few people like him give (the) motoring community a bad name. I have informed those concerned to take appropriate action.”
The car driver has been arrested by the Magadi Road Police and “action is being taken for the offence committed as per law,” said the West Bengaluru deputy police commissioner.
