The police arrested the 17-year-old and seized the car.
New Delhi:
A 56-year-old man carried his seven-year-old grandson in his arms and walked down a street in Delhi's Adarsh Nagar this morning. It was 10:11 am and a speeding Hyundai Santro rammed them and dragged the boy.
The man, Rajesh Kumar Kamra, and his grandson, Mannat, were injured in the accident that was caught on CCTV. Police said a 17-year-old boy was driving the white Santro. Footage showed the man and his grandson sitting on the left side of the road and the car suddenly turned right and headed towards them.
Mr. Kamra tried to avoid the vehicle, but it was a matter of seconds. The Santro first hit a white scooter, then Mr Kamra and then four people standing in a corner on the street.
The scooter stumbled and the rider tried to get up but had difficulty. The 56-year-old man turned around and saw his grandson trapped under the rear wheels of the car. People rushed and stopped the car that was reversing. They pulled out the boy, who suffered injuries in the accident that could have been fatal.
The 17-year-old was taken into police custody and the car was seized.
