Sometimes parents have no choice but to leave their children at home alone. And it’s totally fine to worry about leaving your child unsupervised by an adult. But staying home alone can be a positive experience for your child if done with proper planning. Staying home alone is important for a child’s growth as it will instill confidence and independence.
Here are some tips to reduce your stress while leaving your child at home alone.
Mobile phone
Do not leave your child at home without a mobile phone. You must keep in touch with your child. You may get updates from time to time.
Provide emergency number
If the child is old enough to call a number, give him or her a few emergency numbers on a piece of paper so that he or she can call the phone number if necessary.
Don’t forget to turn off the gas bottle
Children tend to play in the house in the absence of their parents. Attracted to fire, the child may try to light the gas when you are not in your house. Therefore, before you leave your child, make sure that you have turned off the button on the gas bottle.
Bring food
Keep the food for the child on the table. So that when your child is hungry, they don’t go into the kitchen looking for things and don’t try to do anything they shouldn’t.
Remove sharp objects
Before leaving the child alone in the house, always keep in mind that sharp objects such as knives, scissors and screwdrivers are not kept open anywhere in the house. Keep these items out of the reach of the child.
Switch off the sockets
If your child is under 10 years old, always remember to tape the socket. So if your child tries to put his/her finger into the socket, it will not cause electrocution.
Keep the baby busy
Let your child have some creative and engaging games to play or work. If the child is not interested, put a cartoon of your choice on TV or laptop.
