January 2022 Holidays: Access to ATMs and Online Banking Opens to Customers
Public holidays in January 2022: Banks will remain closed this month due to some festivals under the Negotiable Instruments Acts in some states. Some of the festivals observed this month include Bihu, Pongal/Makar Sankranti, which will see banks in a few states remain closed under the Negotiable Instruments Act, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). All banks across the country will be closed on January 26 for Republic Day.
The central bank has classified the holidays into three categories, including holidays under the negotiable instruments law and holidays for gross settlement in real-time, holidays under the negotiable instruments law and bank account closures.

According to the RBI, few states will observe public holidays due to the upcoming festivals on the following days:
January 1, 2022: New Year’s Day
January 3, 2022: New Year Celebration/Losoong
January 4, 2022: Losoong
January 11, 2022: Missionary Day
January 12, 2022: Birthday of Swami Vivekananda
January 14, 2022: Makar Sankranti/Pongal
January 15, 2022: Uttarayana Punyakaala Makar Sankranti Festival/Maghe Sankranti/Sankranti/Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day/Gaan-Ngai/Magh Bihu
January 18, 2022: Thai Poosam
January 26, 2022: Republic Day

- January 3, 2022: Banks close in Aizwal and Gangtok due to New Year or Losoong

- January 18, 2022: Banks in Chennai closed due to Thai Poosam
