Bharat Biotech has put all speculation to rest and said in an official statement that there is no need to give medicines to the children after the Covid jab.
Amid the continued increase in Covid-19 infections and the threat of the Omicron variant, the vaccination campaign for teenagers aged 15-17 is underway across the country. However, there has been some confusion about giving acetaminophen or any pain reliever to children to alleviate the side effects. Putting all speculation to rest, an official statement has made it clear that there is no need to give the children medicines after the Covid jab.
Bharat Biotech, the manufacturer of Covaxin, made clear on Twitter that it is not necessary to give teenagers paracetamol or any other painkiller after vaccination. The response came after they received feedback about certain immunization centers recommending three 500mg acetaminophen tablets along with Covaxin for teens.
Under the Department of Health’s revised vaccination guidelines, teens aged 15 to 17 would only be given a dose of Covaxin.
In the Twitter post, the manufacturer shared that in its clinical studies, involving 30,000 individuals, approximately 10-20 percent of individuals reported side effects. It further stated that most of the symptoms experienced by the individuals were mild and resolved within 1-2 days without medication. “Medication is only recommended after you consult a doctor,” it added.
The teenage vaccination campaign in India started on January 3, 2022 and crossed the 1 crore mark within two days. The information was provided on Twitter by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. He also called on all eligible teens to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
