The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Party have issued a 'three-line whip' notice for all its Lok Sabha MPs (MPs), urging them to be present in the lower house on December 13 and 14, 2024 during the planned debate on the Constitution of India.
“All members are requested to be present in the House on both days,” the BJP whip letter said.
The Congress Party has given three line whips to its Lok Sabha MPs to be present in the House on December 13 and 14.
The debate on the Constitution will last for two days in both Houses of Parliament: December 13-14 in the Lok Sabha and December 16-17 in the Rajya Sabha.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to initiate the debate in the Rajya Sabha. BJP chief JP Nadda and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh are also expected to participate in the debate at their houses respectively. Union Health Minister Nadda is the Leader of the House of Representatives in the Rajya Sabha, while Singh is the deputy leader of the BJP ruling in the Lok Sabha.
By involving the entire top brass in the debate, the BJP wants to ensure that Parliament functions and the opposition addresses important issues.
According to the sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to respond to the debate on the Constitution in Lok Sabha on December 14.
The Winter Session of Parliament, which started on November 25, will run until December 20.
Members of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have agreed to hold a debate on the Indian Constitution next week, following a series of disrupted parliamentary sessions. The breakthrough was achieved last week during an all-party meeting chaired by Chairman Om Birla.
“It is not good to disrupt parliamentary work. We appeal to all Opposition leaders to honor the agreement and ensure smooth functioning of Parliament from tomorrow,” Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said and urged all members during the session to maintain decorum.
