In one fell swoop for Aam Aadmi Party Supremo Arvind Kejriwal, three monkey councilors joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.
The development occurs on the upcoming municipal company of the mayor of Delhi (MCD).
The mayor elections will be held in April.
The three councilors are Anita Basoya (Andrews Ganj), Nikhil Chaprana (Hari Nagar) and Dharamvir (RK Puram).
'Triple Engine' Government
City BJP President Virendra Sachdeva welcomed the council members and said that Delhi will have a “triple engine” government – in the center, meeting and municipal level – at the right time to develop it as the capital of Prime Minister Narendra's vision Under a vision 'Viksit Bharat'.
The council members came to the BJP to make Delhi a clean and beautiful city, Sachdeva added.
With the merging of the three monkey councilors, the count of the BJP is now higher than that of the monkey.
In the aftermath of the recent resounding victory in the polls of Delhi Assembly, the BJP looks in a “Triple Engine Government” in Delhi by securing the function of mayor. The saffron party won 48 of the 70 assembly seats and the monkey disappeared from the current after a decade.
Last mayor elections, held in November 2024, was won by the monkey with three votes.
In addition to the council members, the Seven Lokha -Parliament members (all of BJP), three Rajya Sabha MPs (all AAP) and 14 are MLAs in Delhi voters in the polls for mayor and deputy mayor of the municipal company of Delhi.
The BJP will also have nominated 10 of its MLAs into the MCD, while the monkey will have four nominations for the civilian body, according to BJP leaders, according to a report.
In the polls of 5 February, eight BJP councilors and three monkey councilors were chosen in the meeting.
In the MCD polls from 2022, the AAP had won 134 departments, the BJP 104, the Nine Congress and Independents Three.
