Commercial LPG prices have been increased by Rs 105
New Delhi:
Prices of commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which is used in hotels and other commercial establishments, climbed to their second-highest level by Rs 105 on Tuesday, even as subsidized gas sold to households remained untouched.
Subsequently, the price of a 19kg commercial cylinder has been increased to Rs 2,012 from Rs 1,907, according to the price notification issued by state-owned fuel retailers.
This is the second highest rate, after Rs 2,101 per cylinder in December 2021.
LPG rates are revised on the 1st of each month based on the benchmark fuel price in the previous month.
However, the price of domestic cooking gas LPG sold to households has not changed since October when it rose to Rs 899.50 per 14.2 kg cylinder.
The domestic LPG price freeze is mainly due to the fierce criticism from the opposition over the price hikes which have risen by Rs 90 in the past six months.
Likewise, petrol and diesel prices have been stable for more than 100 days since November 4, 2021, when the government cut excise taxes on petrol and diesel on the eve of Diwali.
There is speculation that fuel tariffs could be raised once parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh end on March 7, as global crude oil prices rose after Russia invaded Ukraine last week.
