A case was reportedly brought against congress leader and head of the Jubilee Hills Assembly, NAVEEN YADAV, because of the reporting spreading of voters passes in the Madhura Nagar area of Hyderabad.
The case was registered on Monday after a complaint had been submitted by a Greater Hyderabad MUNICIPAL CORPORATION (GHMC), who had acted on the basis of a newspaper report and associated photos showing that Yadav handed out voters passes to local residents.
Yadav was booked on the basis of relevant sections of the Representation of the People Act at the Madhura Nagar police station, the police said on Tuesday.
“Based on the complaint and the newspaper report, we registered a case under the representation of the people act,” a Madhura Nagar police officer told PTI news agency.
The alleged incident took place a month ago, a police officer said, adding that further investigation was going on.
On Monday, Raghunandan Rao, member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), filed a complaint with the election committee, together with photographic evidence with regard to the alleged incident.
The police said they are investigating the case to find out how the voters pass was obtained and distributed.
Seeing elections in Jubilee Hills
The interim election for the seat of the Jubilee Hills Assembly in Telangana is planned on 11 November. The results will be announced on November 14.
'Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Dante'
On Wednesday, the national spokesperson for the BJP, Shehzad Poonawalla, launched a destructive attack on congress leader Rahul Gandhi about the case against his party leader in Hyderabad-in a clear reference to Gandhi's' Vote Chori 'campaign against the BJP and the election committee.'
While he accused Naveen Yadav of sharing 'false voters IDs', Poonawalla also claimed that the congress leader had handed out sewing machines to women in an attempt to make a certain community.
He demanded Gandhi's response to what was “mood theft” according to the party by Naveen Yadav in Telangana.
“Ulta Chor Kotwal Ko Dante [kettle calls the pot black]”, Said Poonawalla on a press conference on Tuesday.
Poonawalla claimed that Naveen Yadav, who is very close to Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, would be presented as a conference candidate in the coming byPolls.
He asked Gandhi if he wanted to give some 'Gyan' about the indulgence of his party leader to 'Vote Chori'.
“Rahul Gandhi, you were talking about the explosion of an atomic bomb and a hydrogen bomb, although they themselves exploded. Now a 'Maha Vote Chori' has taken place at your home. Are you planning to explode a bomb and also make a PowerPoint presentation about this Vote Chori?” Asked Poonawalla, joking to the congress leader.
