Reports of internal conflict within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar have emerged days after the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were announced, followed by the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition government in the centre.
The BJP won 12 of the 17 Lok Sabha seats it contested in Bihar. Janata Dal (United), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, also won 12 of the 16 seats it contested. The other NDA allies – LJP (RV) won five seats and HAM one seat.

Cracks within the NDA in Bihar opened when Hari Manjhi, former BJP Member of Parliament (MP) from Gaya, alleged that BJP President and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary failed to secure votes from his own caste – Kushwaha – to be transferred in favor of NDA candidates. , said a report in New Indian Express.
Manjhi, a two-time former MP from Gaya, raised questions about Deputy Prime Minister Samrat Choudhary's leadership and said he could not win the trust of members of his caste despite a whirlwind campaign, the report said.
Before the 2024 general elections, Kushwahas were considered supporters of the NDA. But the equation changed when the INDIA bloc fielded candidates from the Kushwaha community in some key constituencies.
Bursting in Maharashtra too
The report from Bihar comes amid speculation of the BJP severing ties with the Ajit Pawar-led NCP and instead contesting the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra with the Prime Minister Ekanth Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won 30 of the Maharasthra's 48 seats in the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The ruling Mahayuti, a part of the NDA of which Ajit Pawar's NCP faction is a part, managed only 17 seats.
“How can anyone say that we fought on 48 seats, we got only two seats. BJP also lost in other states like Uttar Pradesh. No one thought that the BJP would get so few seats in Uttar Pradesh. So, it is not right to blame the Ajit Pawar faction,” Chhagan Bhujbal, Maharashtra minister and NCP leader, told news agency ANI on Friday.
