Cricket Australia on Thursday appointed Lachlan Henderson as the new chairman of the board, replacing interim chairman Richard Freudenstein. Henderson, a former first-class player and current group director of Epworth HealthCare, is the third chairman to be announced in the past five months and will permanently occupy the position Earl Eddings vacated after his resignation in October last year.
Dr. Henderson, who will start immediately, indicated that his first priorities would be to ensure a strong, sustainable financial future for cricket, increased participation, especially among girls and women, better consultation with state and territory presidents and all stakeholders, and continuing to promote high standards of behavior throughout the game,” the cricket board said in a release on Thursday.
Henderson, who played age-group cricket for Western Australia in the 1980s and joined Cricket Australia as a board member in 2018, takes over the top spot at an important stage following the departures of Australian Test captain Tim Paine and head coach Justin Langer.
“I want to thank Richard, the other CA directors and the state presidents and councils for their support. It is a privilege and an honor to be elected president and serve our national sport,” said Henderson, who was chairman of Western Australia Cricket Association for two years.

Henderson said he “looks forward to working closely with our cricket seats and associations in our states and territory, the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA), our players and our partners, on how we unite and work together to ensure ensure that cricket continues to thrive as Australia’s favorite sport in the future.”
