Ishan Kishan and Shahrukh Khan have been added to the Indian roster for the first ODI vs. West Indies on Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Saturday. “The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Ishan Kishan and Shahrukh Khan to the Indian roster for the first ODI against the West Indies to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday,” the BCCI said in a press release. Earlier in the day, Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed in his pre-match press conference that he would open the battle for the team alongside Kishan.
Prior to the start of the series, seven members of the Indian team, including four players – Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and net bowler Navdeep Saini – had tested positive for COVID-19. Mayank Agarwal was added to the Indian ODI squad for the three-game series.
“Ishan Kishan is the only option we have and he will open with me,” Rohit told PTI news agency at a pre-match press conference.
“Mayank has been added to the roster and he is still in isolation. He arrived (arrived) late and we have some rules. If someone goes on a trip, we have to put him in (mandatory) quarantine for three days. His quarantine has not been completed , so Ishan will open the innings.
