On Saturday, to mark her 40th birthday, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton paid a heartwarming tribute to Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana and Prince William.
With her new birthday portraits, the waiting queen caused a social media meltdown.
Kensington Palace released the three new portraits, captioning it: “I’m excited to share a new portrait of The Duchess tomorrow for her 40th birthday. This is one of three new portraits that will be in the permanent collection of the @nationalportraitgallery. of which the Duchess is the patron saint.”
The photo is a monochrome shot of the Duchess in a white dress. She is seen wearing diamond and pearl earrings and a sapphire ring. The precious items are said to be the belongings of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana.
Another image shows the Duchess in an Alexander McQueen dress, according to a report from Vogue. The diamond earrings that the Duchess is wearing in the photo belong to Queen Elizabeth.
The portraits, photographed by Paolo Roversi, will be a permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery.
