The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday interrogated RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for over eight hours in connection with a money laundering case. The development came a day after the agency questioned his father Lalu Prasad Yadav over an alleged land-for-jobs scam. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, alleged that the BJP's top leadership was 'scared' and targeted them by 'misusing' the central probe agencies.
The agency had filed a complaint against several members of the Yadav family in connection with the scam in early January. It is alleged that the former Chief Minister's relatives – Rabri Devi, Misha Bharti and Hema Yadav – received land plots for nominal amounts as bribes.
The ED probe was initiated on the basis of a CBI FIR accusing former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav of indulging in corrupt practices. The case pertains to the appointment of Group D replacements in the Indian Railways between 2004 and 2009. The CBI chargesheet alleges that the candidates were asked to transfer land as a bribe in exchange for the jobs.
Tejashwi Yadav arrived at the ED office in Patna on Tuesday morning amid heavy security efforts as a large number of RJD supporters raised slogans. The former deputy prime minister was interrogated for more than eight hours and left the building after 8 p.m. Reports citing sources indicate that his statement was recorded under the Money Laundering Prevention Act. However, details about the interaction remain elusive at this time.
