Birthday of Subhas Chandra Bose: January 23, 2021 will mark the birthday of one of India’s most enigmatic freedom fighters, Subhas Chandra Bose, a revolutionary and nationalist who continues to inspire millions of Indians. Azad Hind Fauj commander had unwavering patriotism and his contribution to India’s independence movement is still remembered today. Every year, the country celebrates Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti to honor his contribution.
In 1943, Netaji led the Indian National Army or the Azad Hind Fauj to liberate India from British rule. The title ‘Netaji’ was given to Subhas Chandra Bose by German and Indian officials of the Special Bureau of India in Berlin.

Bose proclaimed the establishment of a provisional independent Indian government on 21 October 1943 and fought alongside Japanese forces against the British. He believed that military strength was necessary for India to gain its independence. Despite being born into a wealthy family, he also harbored strong socialist values. He was also a follower of Swami Vivekananda.

1. “Give me blood and I’ll set you free!” One of his most quoted lines comes from a speech Bose gave to the soldiers of the Indian National Army that he led with Mohan Singh.

3. “We should have only one desire today – the desire to die so that India may live – the desire to face the death of a martyr so that the path to freedom may be paved with the martyr’s blood.”
