A German football coach was banned from football for a year on Wednesday and was fined 20,000 euros ($22,564) after admitting he used false documents to claim he had been fully vaccinated against Covid. Markus Anfang was sacked by second division club Werder Bremen last November after it was revealed that he and his assistant coach, who had also been fired, had both used false certificates. The couple had also tried to trick the local health authority into avoiding quarantine as contact cases.
Anfang’s former assistant, Florian Junge, has also been suspended for 10 months and fined €3,000 by the German Football Association (DFB).
“Markus Anfang and Florian Junge have significantly violated their role model positions as coaches through their actions,” said Hans E. Lorenz, president of the DFB sports field.
As the two acquaintances, their suspension is partly on probation, so that they can coach next season.
According to the DFB statement, Anfang and Junge “each received falsified vaccination certificates in the summer of 2021, incorrectly identifying them as ‘vaccinated twice against the coronavirus'”.

They handed over fake certificates to Werder, “so that they no longer participate from early autumn” in the club’s regular testing program.
In addition, they both presented a falsified vaccination card to Bremen’s health authority to evade quarantine as contact cases after Bremen defender Marco Friedl tested positive.
