Winter has formally begun and Google is celebrating the change taking place in India and around the world with an animated doodle. The new doodle appears on Google Search to welcome cold waves that have already washed over various parts of the world. In the Northern Hemisphere, Tuesday, December 21, is also known as the winter solstice — the day when daylight is shortest and night is longest. It is also known as the longest night of the year.
Google has posted an animated hedgehog in the snow on its website to mark the start of the winter season around the world. Clicking the cinch takes users through search results throughout the season.
According to Google’s Doodles site, the Winter 2021 Google doodle is live in various parts of the world, including India, Canada, Russia, the US and the UK.
In addition to the onset of winters, the Winter Solstice takes place on Tuesdays. It is the time when the sun is at its lowest daily maximum height in the sky resulting in the shortest daylight and longest night of the year in the north of the equator. The day when the moment occurs is called winter solstice or solstice hereafter. It also astronomically marks the beginning of winter and the end of autumn in the western part of the world.
The 2021 winter solstice will be held at 15:59 UTC (21:29 IST), according to Norway’s Time and Date site.
In many cultures around the world, the winter solstice is considered a special day and an important time of the year. It is also considered the beginning of the winter season in the Northern Hemisphere.
