Kolkata, the city of Joy, is known for its nurturing and habitable grounds that allow the arts to flourish in all its prime. And currently, the city has transformed one of its suburbs into a scrapbook of various murals and abstracts. These walls have worn these beautiful colors because of the Behala Art Festival which started from February 25th to February 27th.
This street exhibit leaves the walls of Kolkata’s Behala region covered in colors that depict the city’s rich culture and history. The theme of the festival this year is ‘Light and Darkness’, in which artists visualize their experience of the theme through eye-catching art.
“Keeping in mind the theme of Behala Art Fest, all the artists are doing their job. Human civilization is going through a dark age. Our theme is ‘Light and Darkness’. Artists share their innovative ideas about ‘Light and Darkness’ with life and existence at the forefront,” Sanatan Dinda, Convener, Behala Art Festival, told ANI.
Held for the past 3 years, the 3-day festival is known for the art drawn on walls by various popular artists. Apart from this, the festival also allows anyone to participate without an entrance fee.

Emphasizing the importance of street art, artist Panchali Banerjee said that streets are a platform that mimics an open exhibition where all art is accessible to everyone. With this open platform, developing connections through art is done extremely easily and comfortably. “30 to 40 artists participated in this art festival. The work is almost done. The final touches are being made. People are reaching out in large numbers,” said Panchali.
