Reliance Industries Limited on Monday appointed Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani, the three children of chairman Mukesh Ambani, as directors of the board of the oil-to-telecom conglomerate. The announcement came as Reliance held its annual general meeting with shareholders.
“The Board of Directors of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has recommended to shareholders for approval the appointment of Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani as non-executive directors of the company. Their appointments will be effective on the date they take office, subject to shareholder approval.
The Board also accepted the resignation of Nita Ambani from the Board, respecting her decision to focus on the Reliance Foundation.
“Isha Ambani, Akash Ambani and Anant Ambani have been deeply involved in, leading and managing RIL’s key businesses over the past several years, including retail, digital services, and energy and materials companies. They also serve on the boards of directors of RIL’s major subsidiaries. Their appointment to RIL’s Board of Directors will enable RIL to take advantage of their insights and introduce new ideas, the Board of Directors believed,” the official press release said.
Isha M Ambani
Isha M Ambani is part of the executive leadership teams as a member of the board of directors of Reliance Retail Venture Ltd, Reliance Jio and Reliance Foundation (RF), Reliance Foundation Institution of Education and Research and Dhirubhai Ambani International School.
She has driven Reliance Retail’s expansion into new categories, regions and formats and is focused on improving the overall customer experience.
Isha Ambani is also actively involved in the work of Reliance Foundation. An art lover, she leads all of the Reliance Foundation’s arts and culture initiatives in India and internationally. She is passionate about education and anchors RF’s work with children and women. She is integrally involved in the launch and operation of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center which was launched in March 2023 in Mumbai.
Isha Ambani graduated from Yale University with a dual major in Psychology and South Asian Studies and also holds an MBA from Stanford University. She has been included in TIME magazine’s TIME100 Next list of rising stars from all sectors of the world and has been recognized with the prestigious GenNext Entrepreneur Award at the 2023 Forbes India Leadership Awards.
She serves on the Advisory Board of the Yale Schwarzman Center and on the Board of Trustees of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, Jio MAMI, and the Dia Art Foundation.
Akash M Ambani
Akash M Ambani has been the Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) since June 2022. He previously served as a non-executive director on the board of RJIL since October 2014. He also serves on the board of directors of Jio Platforms Limited, Reliance Industries’ digital services company.
At Jio, he leads the creation of products and services that leverage emerging technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and the Internet of Things to drive a generational shift in commerce, education and healthcare across India. Under his leadership, Jio crossed the 100 million subscriber mark in less than six months after its launch in 2016 and today serves more than 450 million customers.
He is a member of the RJIL Executive Committee, the Board and Operations Council. In addition, he is a member of the Product Leadership Group and is closely involved in the development of products and all digital service applications.
In addition to the digital services business, Akash Ambani has been part of the leadership team of Reliance Industries retail operations since October 2014 and serves as a director on the board of directors of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited.
He is also closely involved in various employee engagement initiatives. An avid sportsman, he has played a key role in the management of Mumbai Indians and contributed greatly to winning the 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 IPL as well as the 2011 CLT20 and 2013 CLT20 championships.
Akash Ambani holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Brown University, USA. He is also a member of Brown University’s President’s Leadership Council. He has been named to TIME magazine’s TIME100 Next list of rising stars from various industries around the world, and to Fortune’s 40 Under-40 Young Leaders Who Stand Out for Their Business Impact.
Anant M Ambani
Anant M Ambani has been a director of Jio Platforms Limited since March 2020, of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited since May 2022 and of Reliance New Energy Ltd and Reliance New Solar Energy Ltd since June 2021. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Reliance. Founded since September 2022.
Anant Ambani is driving the expansion of Reliance Industries’ energy and materials business and its global renewable and green energy business. Under his leadership, Reliance aims to become a Net Carbon Zero company by 2035 by building global-scale capabilities in the production of clean fuels and materials of the future, developing next-generation carbon capture and storage technologies, holistic and circular materials businesses, and maximizing the conversion of crude oil to chemicals.
He is also heavily involved in various employee engagement initiatives to establish a young and vibrant culture. He has been intensely passionate about animal welfare from a very young age and is currently involved in several compassionate initiatives to rehabilitate at risk animals and provide them with care and dignity in their remainder of life.
Anant Ambani received his undergraduate degree from Brown University, USA.
